The Tips for The First Trimester of Pregnancy

How to Take Care of Yourself during The First Trimester of Pregnancy?

The first trimester begins on the first day of your last period and lasts until the end of week 12. This means that by the time you know for sure you’re pregnant, you might already be four or five weeks pregnant! During this trimester, the pregnancy is not stable. The majority of miscarriages occur during the first trimester. So take care of yourself during this trimester.

1. Life style change

You need cut out alcohol and smoking, and reduce your caffeine intake.

2. Watch your diet

Don’t worry if you can’t eat a well-rounded diet in your first trimester – sickness can make this difficult. Try to eat frequent and small meals. Carry some snacks (like nuts, dried fruit and cracker) with you. Take them when you feel hungry.

Avoid raw food in your diet, especially raw meat or fish. It is better to eat hot meals. Drink warm water instead of cold.

3. Take your prenatal vitamin

If you haven’t started taking a prenatal vitamin yet, now’s the time to start. It’s particularly critical to get enough folic acid while trying to conceive and during your first trimester. Folic acid greatly reduces your baby’s risk of developing neural tube birth defects such as spina bifida.

4. Have more rest

Avoid strong exercise and house work. Yoga is not suitable during this trimester because the stretching may affect the muscles on your tummy. Gentle walking is the good choice. It is better to avoid intercourse until your dating scan.

5. Go to see doctors

Once you know you are pregnant, please go to see GP ASAP. The GP will arrange the blood test and dating scan for you. After the dating scan, you could arrange an appointment with midwife or obstetrician. If you are getting the treatment in fertility clinic, the clinic will arrange for you.

6. Try acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.

These two natural therapies may help increase blood flow to the uterus and boost your body energy in order to support healthy embryo growth. Acupuncture is also a recognized method for managing stress and reducing morning sickness.
