Endometriosis is a gynaecological disorder in which the tissue that normally lines inside the uterus, known as the endometrium is also growing outside the uterus. Most commonly, the growth is on the fallopian tubes, ovaries, intestines and bladder, but in some cases, it can also spread outside the pelvic area. Symptoms of endometriosis include painful periods, pain during intercourse or ovulation. Endometriosis is a common cause of infertility, as severe endometriosis can distort the tubes and ovaries. It may also block the egg’s release by causing scar tissue or cysts.

If you have mild or moderate endometriosis, your GP may prescribe birth control drugs to suppress the female hormones that are affecting growth. This therapy may reduce the endometriosis but it also prevents conception. As well, the endometriosis frequently reappears once you stop using the medication. If you have severe endometriosis would like to get pregnant, your doctor might recommend surgery to remove the endometriosis and repair the damage to the reproductive organs.

Endometriosis means blood stagnation in the pelvic areas according to Traditional Chinese Medicine. Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine help promote the Qi and blood flow in the pelvic areas, which may help reduce the inflammation, relive the period/ovulation pain as well as may boost fertility.
